129. Fifth section. Within the scope of the second category one will also find some human beings whose feeling does not find much expression in religion but appears more in the form of the visual, musical, theatrical and poetic arts. Such people are called "artists". However, some of them appear with a faculty of feeling expressed partly in the arts and partly in their interest in religion. People of this kind will therefore very often become members of prominent religious societies. But there are also those who in their present incarnation dedicate their talents and tendencies entirely to art. It is among this type that the so-called geniuses and virtuosos are to be found - people who have reached a perfection of skill and creative faculty in their own fields. Later in this book it will be explained how these people have been connected with art through several previous terrestrial lives, and have therefore been able to train themselves to perfection in their own particular area of art, even without achieving religious and moral perfection. This means that in layers of consciousness outside their own especially developed artistic field, they may well be primitive and imperfect, having many unfinished sides with regard to morality. But when their artistic genius has reached its culmination, unable to dominate their consciousness any longer, then their aim and interest will be to achieve moral genius, which they will attain relatively quickly in coming incarnations due to the experience and expanded consciousness they have acquired in the course of their artistic careers.
      Artists are exceptionally important contributing factors in the service of the Divine Creative Principle. Because of their highly developed faculty of feeling as well as creative faculty, they constitute - together with representatives of science, world redeemers and moral geniuses - the tools with which the higher powers provide the masses with nourishment, awaken them to life, create in them the ability to recognize beauty and harmony, endow them with culture and spirit, in order to raise them from the animal kingdom's dark domination so that they may enter into the land of promise and its divine liberation.
      With regard to the new world impulse, many artists have already been animated by its powers, although unconsciously. As already mentioned, this has shown itself in the visual arts of the present day and in music and architecture. These factors are still in embryo and therefore unfinished but nevertheless they are identical with the first break of dawn from a new artistic sunrise over the world.
      People from the fifth section will not show very much opposition to the religious and moral side of the new world impulse, nevertheless some intolerance will be released by this group towards that part of the impulse which manifests itself as art, because many artists cannot understand the forms of expression in which it appears, nor have they acquired the faculty of tolerance. In this way there will be some resistance, but the conflict will not be of great importance because these artists will not be long in finding guidance through their well-developed artistic sense.
