Livets Bog, vol. 1
The attitude in the consciousness of the two groups towards daily events. Livets Bog and Group B
142. As Group B can only acquire its religious nourishment through influence on the faculty of feeling, whilst Group A, on the contrary, can only obtain that nourishment through experiencing facts and acquiring real knowledge, then there will be a fundamental difference between the two groups in their attitude towards daily material events. While to those in Group A the events are beginning to become "divine speech", to Group B, these events are more or less characterized as "evil". To the more highly developed individual in Group A, on the contrary, daily events will not be considered as anything evil - although they can sometimes appear as unpleasant enough - but they are experienced as absolutely indispensable and fruitful links in a divine world plan, and in the deepest analysis, expressions of love. But in experiencing these same events that individual will then come to obtain the most perfect religious nourishment ever to be found, because the experience is actually identical with life's own supreme assessment, namely a proof that: "Everything is very good". The people in Group A, as they gradually develop, will thus find themselves more and more involved in and guided by "life's own religion" (see Section 15).
As the people within Group B are unable to come to that kind of assessment of their daily material experiences, then the latter become in a way "indigestible" for them - that is to say, they cannot extract from them any particular religious stimulus or inspiration. As obtaining religious nourishment based on knowledge instead of upon faith is promoted mainly by intelligence, which, for the individuals within Group B, is only latent in the religious area, then these individuals will be quite unreceptive to any advanced intelligent explanation of life's divine laws and highest problems. Indeed, they may sometimes find that such an explanation is even "sinful". As the new world impulse - and hence, Livets Bog - is prepared to give the highest intellectual and logical interpretation of the direct speech of life, then it is obvious that the individuals within Group B cannot have much use for, or interest in, reading it for they lack the necessary intelligence to understand it. In spite of this, however, from a religious aspect they are under divine suggestion and from this they will obtain sufficient spiritual power. Very often, therefore, they will be opponents to the book, especially because it is outside the area of "suggestion" - meaning in this case outside the scope of their imagination concerning "divinity" - and therefore must be considered as "earthly" or "evil". For them, therefore, it is "indigestible" religious nourishment.
