The thought process "from above" and the thought process "from below". Terrestrial science is still based on the thought process "from below". When terrestrial science reaches the thought process "from above"
217. As the "gold copies" exist as ideas or genuine values, the transformation comes into the individual's mind as ready-made thought pictures and will thus constitute "intuition" as mentioned above. This thought process, appearing in the form of intuition, is not from the material or physical world but is in fact from the "divine world" itself and is thus a contrast to terrestrial mankind's basic thought process, which is brought about by reactions from the material or physical world and, through feeling and intelligence, produces thoughts. The advanced human being can thus, besides experiencing thoughts "from below", also experience thoughts "from above". While the experience of thoughts "from below" constitutes the basic form for experiencing existence in his waking physical life, so the experience of thoughts "from above" constitutes a basic form of life only after passing through the Great Birth. In the case of terrestrial mankind the experience of thoughts "from below" is the basic one, while the experience of thoughts "from above" is still very elementary and can be released only as small glimpses in a few more advanced individuals. But beyond the Great Birth the individual will be aware of his experience of thought "from above" - the function of intuition - and will have it under the control of the will in the same way as is now the case with his ordinary thought process "from below". As the thought process "from above" is still primitive in terrestrial mankind, while the thought process "from below", on the other hand, is fundamental and in its culmination, then earthly science must still be based on the latter and therefore - as we shall illustrate later - cannot be a basic expression of the analysis of the universe or "Eternal Truth" any further than to the limit the thought process "from below" can reach. Only when science is able to use and represent the thought process "from above" to the same extent as it can now employ the thought process "from below", will it no longer be on the borders of the spiritual world but at its centre.
