Concerning terrestrial mankind, it has not yet advanced so far in development as to have become "one with the Way, the Truth and the Life" and hence it must, to a certain degree, continue to live under quite a considerable veiling of the Eternal Truth and of life's purpose. That is to say, terrestrial mankind's general concept of life - as I have mentioned before - with its "Heaven" and "Hell", its "God" and "Devil" - could not be identical with a revealed, fundamental expression of the Eternal Truth, although it cannot be denied that it does contain the basic factors and principles of the Truth. That this really is so, one will come to realize, along with other facts, when one is capable of carrying out an analysis of the actual relationship between that general concept of existence and the whole of terrestrial humanity. In making such an analysis, we will then observe that with regard to a large part of the world's population, the general concept has, in short, become outdated. However, that this concept has thus become outdated must clearly indicate that all human beings involved have so advanced in evolution, or have so greatly developed their abilities, that to them the foregoing concept will appear correspondingly more or less naïve or superstitious. Witnessing the actual course of world events, we will see that, whether manifested in the East or in the West, the present general idea of existence has indeed become outdated or naïve and consequently has lost its inspiring power for people as a moral basis. In reality, world events constitute one great expression of a deficit in world morality, the further release and culmination of which we all know as identical with the four-year bloodshed we call "World War 1914-18". This, through its after-effects in the form of ten million graves and at least as many war cripples, grieving parents, grieving widows and fatherless children, with its corresponding social distress, illness, poverty and misery, makes its own solemn announcement very plainly that the great commandment: "Love one another" has not been presented in any adequate way which could keep the interest of individuals directed towards "Eternal Peace" to a degree able to compete with their interests in social advantages, worldly position, wealth and prestige. On the contrary, these interests have attained such an upper hand that individuals, in their ignorance and naïvety, have not found those factors too dearly paid for by fratricide in the modern process of mutilation we call "war".
