Livets Bog, vol. 2
The divine "Something", "X1" or the I behind the energies.
304. I have already pointed out in the first volume of "Livets Bog", Section 250 that there exists such a "Something" as a reality, under the expression "X1". In the same place I included Symbol No. 5, "The Way to the Light", additionally sketching in that "Something" by means of the white area above the oblong figure which makes up the whole symbol. Below the white area one sees two other areas, the middle one expressing the reality called "X2" and the lowest one "X3".
We will gradually come to realize that these three phenomena are actual facts which it is impossible to ignore in a true analysis of the plan and nature of the Universe itself. Here in these chapters under the heading Cosmic Chemistry it is the intention to analyse particularly "X3" which comprises everything coming under the definition of "substance" or "matter". Therefore, certain details regarding the other two "X's" cannot be dealt with here but their special analysis will be postponed until a later section or volume of the present work.
As all the combinations of energy or matter in Nature, i.e. in existence, prove to serve a purpose, it cannot really be logical to deny the existence of an originator behind this purpose. In their highest analysis the cycles of Nature are completely logical, otherwise how could it be the case that they result in such a magnificent manifestation of living beings in manifold forms, modes of life and behaviour? Where can such colours be matched? Do not even the highest intellectual achievements of terrestrial man simply pale before those of Nature? And yet not one of terrestrial man's achievements could have come into being without a brain. So how could it be logical to presume, then, that the far higher products in existence – as the facts show, manifesting as no less advantageous, no less intellectual nor less perfect than terrestrial man's – how could those achievements come about without a "brain'? The fact that humanity does not understand to what or to whom the function of such a "brain" belongs, does not constitute any logical reason for denying the existence of such a "brain".
As all created things in existence prove to be a purposeful combination of various substances or energies, it thus becomes evident that the said substances have been made use of by a "creator". This is easy enough to recognize whenever this "creator" manifests in flesh and blood and we call such a manifestation a "living being". But this "living being" is but an indirect manifestation of the "creator" itself. What we see are only different combinations of substances which, in a logical and purposeful way, are built up as a tool through which the unseen "creator" can manifest and express itself. This tool is that which we call the "organism" or the "body". If now we are to analyze cosmically the substances or energies in existence, it can only be done from a viewpoint far above the organisms of all living beings, a viewpoint where only the two upper horizontal areas shown in Symbol No. 5 are present, that is the white and the violet areas respectively which represent the "divine Something" or the "I" and its creative power. In our analysis therefore – and before we give a special analysis of that "Something" – we are obliged in advance to accept the fact that there is actually a "Something" behind the energies and substances, a "Something" which utilises them as matter or tools for manifestation and creation. This "Something" is the kernel of life in every living being and in this analysis of "cosmic chemistry" it will be expressed as the "I" or "X1".
