333. In order to work with such a mixture the individual must have a tool or organ.
Such an organ is known as a "body" or "organism".
Among such organisms it is the individual's physical body which is best known to terrestrial man.
As the cosmic combination of basic energies which applies here has gravity-energy as its dominant energy, while intuition-energy is latent, and the energies of feeling and intelligence are increasing while those of instinct and memory are decreasing, so the "body of gravity" (the individual's physical body) must then be a body based largely upon its ability to be the individual's tool in his connection or interaction with that cosmic mixture of substances, or constellation of energies.
As we see, it is the lowest forms of energy in the scale which dominate this combination.
The living being who is to create its existence or manifestation from this combinations of substances, cannot therefore be so advanced in its nature as those individuals who have bodies with which they are able to create their life and existence through interaction with one of the cosmic combinations of substances lying higher in the scale where the intellectual energies dominate.
This factor finds expression in the collective manifestation of all living beings, for it actually displays an immense number of mutual differences in the manifestations shown by these beings, which again are accurately classified into six basic forms of existence, each corresponding exactly to the six cosmic combinations of substances on the scale.
So we see beings from the "instinct-combination" and these we call "plants".
We see beings from the "gravity-combination" and these we call "animals".
But in reality it is here on the scale that terrestrial man still has his abode as long as "gravity-energy" remains the dominating factor, for it is upon this energy that hostilities and bodily injury are based, manifesting as militarism and war machines, but, in point of fact, terrestrial mankind cannot be without this energy for his daily life and maintenance of a bearable existence.
However, within this same humanity there begins to appear the next cosmic combination of substances, the one in which "feeling" is the dominating factor.
The more this "feeling" is cultivated – that is to say becomes mixed with a suitable amount of "intelligence-energy" and thereby becomes transformed into "love" – the more will terrestrial man begin to find himself within the coming kingdom,
the true "human kingdom".
And it is precisely on this account that humanity's great guides give precepts and ideals which actually lead to an attraction towards neighbourly love and an antipathy towards the animal-like principle of egoism, guiding it away from revenge and murder and towards the ability to forgive.
In fact these ideals are based upon a resistance to gravity-energy and a stimulation for using the energy of love.
The important schools, universities and colleges of modern times are indeed the very greatest expression of an ever-increasing development in the use of the basic energy of the intellect, that is to say the energy of intelligence or reason.
