Dreams are proof of a "soul-state" and a "soul-world".
341. Remembered experiences are of course only recollections of the "past". This other world also apparently possesses a realistic "present" and "future" which are similarly evident in an individual's dream-experiences. As we have already touched upon, these are not always "memories" or recollections of things an individual has previously experienced. Dreams also sometimes do reveal "clairvoyance", that is to say, "visions" of things which are really happening somewhere or other at the moment of experiencing them and which now, in some mysterious way, come to an individual's knowledge for the first time.
But it is not only at a distance or in space that the I can experience happenings in dreams. It can also experience "clairvoyance" in time. It may happen that while dreaming the I experiences in detail things which will not come about on the physical plane until some time later. In this case the dream-state reveals a form of experiencing through which the I is able to obtain foreknowledge of the future. These two forms of experiencing – clairvoyance in space and clairvoyance in time – are, of course, completely new experiences. For in this way, the individual has access to entirely new knowledge. As he is able, through his dream state, to gain entirely new knowledge and meet with new experiences, this state is clearly a realistic and true form of experiencing. And as these experiences come about without any assistance from the physical senses – indeed, in such a situation an individual sometimes experiences seeing his own physical body asleep, that is, he sees himself quite outside his physical body – then this form of experiencing constitutes in itself an irrefutable proof of the I's presence and life in a "non-physical" world. It can experience in a kind of matter and in a world that is not physical. As it is this non-physical state and non-physical world one defines as the "state and world of the psyche", then this state and this world are now shown to be genuine realities. The entire connection of the I with this psychic state and psychic world is brought about through the subconscious mental province which constitutes its night-consciousness.
