The I's fourth source of power. Intel-ligence-energy. Nature is consciousness.
354. But a planned method cannot possibly be created with the energies of instinct, gravity and feeling alone. What, then, is a planned method? It is something which can lead the mutual reactions between the energies of gravity and feeling to create useful purpose. By means of this something the explosive energies can be guided and their degree of force determined or, in situations where it is most expedient, the gravity-energy can be completely fettered by feeling-energy. That such a "something" exists is indeed a fact which cannot be disregarded. Every terrestrial human being and even fairly advanced animals act in many situations by virtue of this "something". All the technology of war is but a guidance of "gravity", the energy of explosion. Indeed, all the achievements of man, his construction of houses, his production of machines, equipment and works of art all express in the very highest degree the existence of that "something". Like instinct, this "something" is understood as a characteristic of consciousness and is known to us as "intelligence".
But as intelligence – like "instinct" – exists only as a function and a function is a kind of movement, then "intelligence" will thus also be a specific form of released energy. It is this release of energy that is shown in "Livets Bog" to be the fourth basic energy, described as "intelligence-energy".
In the condensation of matter that takes place through the energies of "gravity" and "feeling" there is thus a perfect method. Both the materialization, or condensation, of physical matter, as well as its dissolution, shows that it is under control. But if these three energies – "instinct", "gravity" and "feeling" – are being guided into their combination or composition as solid matter, this means that the I – or that which is the instigator of the composition – is able to control these three energies and correctly combine them according to its wish or will. However, such mastery is absolutely and solely dependent on another existing energy, for one energy or substance cannot be moved except by means of another energy or substance. As the substance or energy in this case is "intelligence-energy", then it demonstrates the reality of the I's controlling factor.
As all normal creation, in its highest analysis, proves to be methodically and intelligently planned, whether it be due to Nature or to Man, then through the presence of this "intelligence-energy" it is again shown as a fact that Nature itself constitutes "consciousness" and is made up of the very same energies as are living beings themselves.
'Intelligence-energy", then, constitutes a power through which the I is able to determine its combinations of matter, or the creation of its manifestations. Without this energy no kind of logical or purposeful creation could take place in the Universe or in existence. "Intelligence-energy" therefore, constitutes the I's fourth great source of power.
