How beings in the physical world communicate indirectly while beings in the spiritual world communicate directly. Physical bodies and those underlying physical matter. The super-consciousness.
372. In a world where matter may thus be directly modelled by the slightest command, mutual contact between beings will, of course, be of quite a different and far more perfect nature than is known in the spheres of dense matter. When a terrestrial person wishes to communicate from the depths of his heart, he can only manage it in an indirect way. He himself is embedded or enveloped in heavy physical substance and can only communicate or unburden himself by setting that matter in vibration, that is to say, he can model it so that it becomes a symbol for, or a copy of, the thought-formations or thought-images he wishes to reveal or release. But as dense physical material cannot in any way obey thoughts directly, then the living being has to find other ways of making matter obey him. This happens by thoughts directly processing spiritual matter, in other words, the intellectual basic energies. It is through these energies that – as mentioned above – matter forms itself at the command of thought. On the physical plane these modellings of intellectual matter are called "ideas". These ideas can be of quite a stable character in that the thought-concentration – the wish or desire on the basis of which those ideas exist – can become of a permanent nature; it can develop into a mental habit and thereby to an automatic function. This again indicates that the thoughts or ideas in question are maintained by an individual without the need for him to be mentally conscious of this function all the time. The psychic organisms resulting from this function are really the same as the individual's spiritual or mental bodies. Here in "Livets Bog" these bodies are described as "underlying the physical", and have been named in conjunction with the sub-physical matter from which each of them has been created. We already know them under the descriptions, body of "instinct", body of "intelligence", body of "intuition", and body of "memory". All these bodies are of a sub-physical nature. The other two bodies – those of "gravity" and "feeling" – as a consequence of their identity as representatives correspondingly of "heat" and "cold", or as intermediate forms of these – must be considered as "physical" bodies.
As we have learnt previously, terrestrial man's sub-physical bodies support his "night-consciousness" and the two other bodies his "day-consciousness". Furthermore, as also mentioned before, there is a "super-consciousness" which is supported by the individual's "body of eternity", in which exist his "talent-kernels" and "fate-element'; this is also expressed here in "Livets Bog" by the concept "X2".
