383. In terrestrial existence any knowledge or recognition of the supreme identity of living beings is more or less unknown and, as mentioned previously, can at the most be regarded only as mysticism, apart from among the prophets who belong to that category of beings who, in varying degrees, have had "cosmic glimpses" of the higher worlds; indeed, there have probably been within this group those who have had permanent "cosmic consciousness".
I am referring here to "world redeemers".
Daily life in the highest worlds of the spiral is supported therefore by "cosmic consciousness", which is actually the same as the "Holy Spirit" which, again, is synonymous with the thought formations, or shades of consciousness, which constitute the very highest harmonious cosmic-chemical combination of the basic energies.
They are themselves the culmination of intellect, that is to say the culmination of reason and love.
This is the experience of a life made perfect through a being's very highest use of intelligence in order to promote the manifestation of unselfishness, and by the power of this divine attitude he is able to abide exclusively in the mentality of the Godhead itself.
That same being makes the world submissive, in that God's wisdom, desires, power and love have entered his own mentality.
Unhindered by the law of gravity or by destructive explosions within and without, but with matter obeying his slightest thought, such a being becomes a glorious experience both for others and for himself.
The globe or world which this being now inhabits is experienced only as the zone or sphere in which any manifestation that does not constitute a perfect fulfilment of the laws of love is an utter impossibility.
Just as a physically organic being such as terrestrial man could not spend his physical life within a fire and therefore could not live on the sun in the same way as he does on Earth, then neither could a being from the lower kingdoms and spheres of the spiral live its life according to those spheres if it were on the "globes" or "heavenly bodies" of the "divine world".
As these highest worlds in the spiral do not consist of condensed matter, they are, in themselves, not visible.
Their existence or presence is apprehended by their inhabitants only as a sphere for the fulfilment of those mental laws or conditions governing combinations or compounds of matter which must be present in order that such matter can be of a nature which obeys the will and the guidance of thought, for this constitutes a condition of life for beings who, liberated from physical substance, are culminating in intellectuality and love.
Globes or worlds in the intellectual section of the spiral are thus not visible or condensed worlds as are the globes in the spiral's unintellectual spheres.
They are all of a form which is mental.
And as "super-consciousness" is the most concentrated mental factor which exists, it becomes the absolute "fixed point".
But this, like all other mental matter, is here invisible in itself and only acquires colour, form and other details from the reactions of matter brought about by the wishes or desires of the I.
Everything that is visible is thus merely an interplay between "super-consciousness" and matter.
This, in a way, is much the same as in the physical world.
Here, too, life-experience is synonymous with an interplay between an individual's "super-consciousness" and matter.
But here a being is not fully conscious about himself, for he is not aware of his "super-consciousness".
Therefore his whole manifestation is based to an overwhelming degree on automatic functions which have been cultivated and developed in far-off periods of his past in another spiral's intellectual sphere and of which – on account of his present elementary memory – he has no recollection.
No wonder, then, that here he is quite out of touch with himself, considers himself to be identical with matter and believes that he stands or falls by that alone.
He is, in reality, a cosmic "infant" in swaddling clothes.
And it is the solid permanent physical organisms or bodies which constitute these "swaddling clothes".
In the intellectual part of the spiral the being has grown out of the swaddling clothes.
He has become conscious of his own identity and experiences freedom from matter.
Here, in the highest degree, his life is based on the "functions of awake day-consciousness".
At this point his automatism is latent.
