387. The world described above is in reality the highest peak of life and that it could become as radiant as it is, is, of course, also due to the great abundance of another intellectual faculty – namely, "memory".
      As appears on the symbol, "memory-energy" is very prominent in the "divine world" and it actually culminates in the next kingdom which is the "kingdom of bliss". As the faculty of the use of memory is not very much to the fore in the zone of terrestrial man, naturally any knowledge of this faculty will be correspondingly limited for that being. A terrestrial being's span of memory is so restricted that its limits are a good way within the boundaries of time and space which mark the limit of its present physical life, that is to say the physical body's period of existence, which, again, in "Livets Bog", is called an "earthly life".
      As "memory" is the same as the ability to roam backwards and forwards in a period of time already experienced, then one can understand that a terrestrial person's ability for this is very limited. Indeed, such a person cannot even remember back to his birth or other details in the earliest years of his present life, in fact he cannot remember the details of his life a week back, or even just a day. As the faculty of "memory" in the "divine world" manifests quite differently, in that it culminates in the next kingdom of the spiral, obviously there is quite a different predominant facility here for "reliving" that which has already been experienced. Here there is no reincarnation with the difficult processes of birth and death which bar the way for the individual to go back to previously experienced mental areas.
      As mentioned before, bodily renewal takes place continuously with matter obeying thought, and the processes of birth and death come about simply in the form of enjoyable, fully conscious materialization and dematerialization controlled by will, and in this way existence gives the living being the impression of "eternal life". In this "eternal life" the individual in the "divine world" is enabled also – through his faculty of memory – to relive details of large spans of times he has lived through previously. In this way it is possible for him to go back considerable distances in time. This applies particularly, of course, to the most evolved beings usually inhabiting this zone. In the case of terrestrial man, who is only experiencing the "divine world" while "passing through" on his way from one physical life to the next, the ability to go back in time is far more restricted even though his memory is naturally no longer hindered by physical matter. So a terrestrial being in the "divine world" is only able to go back in time to events in a few former lives, while the beings who usually inhabit this high sphere, can return to events hundreds of lives back in order to be enabled in the next kingdom – the "kingdom of bliss" or the "world of memory" – to go back to the entire period, or circuit, of the present spiral.
