394. Outwardly, the individual is now using only "instinct-energy" – as we shall return to later – and the first beginnings of "gravity-energy", which together gradually manifest in the physical functions or creative processes which here in this terrestrial world is called the "mineral kingdom".
      As the outward functions of energy in this kingdom are expressing only unconscious functions because the beings' day-conscious display of energy is now directed inwards to their own solitary world of recollection, then the "mineral kingdom" to a great extent is regarded by terrestrial man as a "lifeless" world. But this concept has nothing whatsoever to do with the reality. The "mineral kingdom" is in no way a lifeless world. Its functions or types of movement are all identical with automatic functions which are conscious, that is to say, they are based firmly on "C knowledge". As "C knowledge" (see my book "Logic", Chapter 94) is the same as "habitual consciousness", and as "habitual consciousness" presupposes a previous awake day-consciousness, and this is identical with "life" itself, then the so-called "dead" functions of the "mineral kingdom" in themselves obviously must be seen by the advanced investigator as identical with "functions of consciousness" or of "life". Consequently the existence of the "mineral kingdom" is absolutely just as much the result of previous functioning in awake day-consciousness as those realities produced by the agency of human hands. Just as houses, machines, means of transport, clothes and other useful articles produced by human beings are incontestable proofs that these human beings have lived previously to them, in the same way any kind of combination of energies manifesting in the "memory-energy" is also an incontestable proof that there has previously existed a conscious source. And thus we are also confronting the fact that death is an illusion and that life constitutes an omnipresent absolute reality.
