Livets Bog, vol. 2
The parable of the "prodigal son" and the "being in bliss". The intellectuality of the "being in bliss" is "dying". The "kingdom of bliss" is the beginning of a cosmic zone of rest for the being's intellectuality.
406. If an individual completely outlives, or feels totally satiated with a certain form of life, there will certainly arise in his consciousness a repulsion for that very form of life. It is well known that all satiation creates a longing for the contrast of that which caused it. The mind would necessarily and naturally come to a standstill, in disgust, in "hell", if this contrasting kind of life did not exist and the longing arising from the satiation was not in any way satisfied. A real and actual death would finally have to become a fact.
If a "being in bliss" is attracted by recollections of previous periods in the lower zones of the spiral it is, as mentioned above, because he has become a hundred per cent satiated with the heavenly realms' high and perfect existence, the culmination of which he has just experienced in the "divine world". But he cannot suddenly become adapted to living in those primitive zones. Many aeons of "time" must pass before the being from God's own sphere, the "divine kingdom", can again become a perfect tool in the service of the "killing principle", and in this way, in actual flesh and blood, can experience a form of existence which now, more and more, will become his coveted and strongest light, his most ideal existence, and thereby constitute the goal which is to satisfy his longings. Therefore he must first of all be content to gain access to those details of the lower zones he has in his own "inner world", that is to say in memories from the spiral's elementary zones which he has lived through. With increasing interest for that form of life which supports the elementary zones of the spiral, he becomes more and more estranged from the light in the "divine world", though for some time, of course, he will still be enfolded in the divine glow of that world. This light streams right through the "inner" and "outer" worlds of the "kingdom of bliss" and it can be traced indirectly right down through the plant kingdom's colours and perfumes and indeed, through all intellectuality which – transformed into an automatic function – forms the supporting basis for beings' perfect guidance through the spiral's unintellectual zones.
