423. But solar energy, or fire, can also be noticed in another way within our own organism, namely by the power of pure physical warmth. That this cannot become luminous fire is due to our advanced state of animal development in which the third great basic energy of "feeling" (the cold of the Universe) actually begins to hold all physical fire in check, and thereby animal development and the manifestation of awake intellectual day-consciousness connected to it, is made possible on the physical plane.
      This physical heat in the organisms of living beings thus proves the fact that fire is present in those organisms, although in this case it appears in a greatly limited form. This heat is analogous to the heat of the terrestrial globe itself – or rather, to the incandescent condition of its interior. Just as the Earth's incandescent solar heat, or state of fire, is dying down so, too, is the flesh and blood heat of the most advanced animal beings also on the decline. These beings are, in fact, in principle also "dying suns".
      Although it is comparatively easy to grasp that before its present cooled-down appearance, the Earth at one time was in a state of flaming fire, it is considerably more difficult for readers to understand that their present physical life was formerly in a similar fiery condition. This fact is obvious considering that terrestrial man certainly does not remember anything whatsoever of the very first beginning period of his present physical organism. His horizon of memory with regard to this incarnation, only begins to record details many years after his physical birth. The entire process of transition from the kingdom of bliss to physical birth proceeds as an automatic function and is totally outside the being's day-consciousness. What happens during the period when his body, or his organism, is being created, is entirely beyond the said being's conscious control.
