428. Those living beings which are plant or animal life-forms have thus all originated from the "kingdom of bliss". They have all been through the fiery or solar state and are now beings who are literally "cooling down". This "cooling down" process is due to the increase of "feeling-energy" (the cold of the Universe) in the consciousness. And it is with this energy's interaction with "gravity-energy" that the explosions occur which are the cause of the killing principle and the creation of the dark side of existence. So now we have arrived again at those energy-combinations in the spiral which give rise to the existence of the plant and animal kingdoms. And we have thus returned to the starting point in our elucidation of the spiral's six basic energies. But it still remains to take account of the importance of "cooled-down" or animal forms of existence for the conscious life of the individual.
      As the reader is already aware, that form of existence is really identical with the transference of an individual's day-consciousness to the physical plane. And then, through his practice with the materials of "gravity" and "feeling" and his conscious experience of explosions (that is, sufferings, sorrows and misfortunes), there arises the opportunity for the cooperation of a new energy in the creation of consciousness – namely, "intelligence".
      By the use of this energy a possibility is again gradually brought about for the participation of higher intellectual energies in consciousness, although at this stage the individual's "intelligence" is promoting the development of the technical side of murder and killing. But in actuality this development only brings about a forcing of the individual's growth of experience. With the "cooling down" of those tools or organisms of manifestation employed by the individual, there has arisen a marvel of enormous benefit for him, for in this way he can develop an intellectual centre, just as by means of the spiral's unintellectual energies, a sexual centre has been created. The difference between the beings in the fiery or solar state and those who are "cooling down" is that the former possess only a sexual centre on the physical plane, while the latter have both a sexual and an intellectual centre on that plane. It is to create a certain balance or equilibrium between these two centres in the consciousness that is the purpose of mankind's terrestrial evolution.
