So this equilibrium does not exist in the first kingdoms of the spiral; indeed in the entire area of the animal kingdom there exists in actual fact the most extreme form of disharmony and instability between these two centres. This disharmony reaches its height within that form of life we call "terrestrial man". That this lack of harmony between sexuality and intellectuality reaches its highest stage in terrestrial man is fully confirmed by world events of today. One cannot avoid the fact that it must be against all logic and sound common sense for people to kill and murder each other, to demolish and destroy the technical wonders, in the form of factories, buildings, schools, hospitals, bridges, railways and so forth, all of which have laboriously been built up at enormous expense, and further in any way to implement that hell we call war and mutilation with all its consequential impoverishment, degradation and demoralisation. All this misery is thus the absolute consequence of the imbalance between people's sexual and intellectual energies.
