Livets Bog, vol. 2
The reaction between "gravity-" and "feeling-energy". "Gravity-energy" is at the root of all sexual powers, both those that bring about conception and those that promote the dynamic force in all things. All manifestations of the principle of "killing" are "gravity-energy" directed by the will.
430. It must be understood here that sexual powers constitute more of an individual's mentality or consciousness than just what is apparent in the form of ordinary eroticism, falling in love and mating, and in the creation and maintenance of the species. This form of sexual power actually represents only those sexual energies which, collectively, have become a habit of consciousness, an ability or automatic function for the creation or reproduction of organisms, although partly under control of the will. But sexual powers constitute a far greater scale than that represented by reproduction; in reality they comprise absolutely everything which exists as warmth in the flesh and blood of an organism. This warmth, as we know from former analyses, is the same as "gravity-energy". Any kind of contact it has with the other energies is, in reality, the same as sexuality; this will be referred to later in "Livets Bog" described under the term the "highest fire".
"Gravity-energy" is in its nature explosive, that is to say its power moves "outwards", as opposed to "feeling-energy" whose power moves "inwards". It is again these two characteristics which show that the effect of heat is to "expand" while cold "contracts". Consequently the reaction caused by these two energies encountering each other will invariably release itself in explosion wherever "gravity-energy" has the upper hand, and there will be total contraction, petrification or crystallization where "feeling-energy" has greater influence. As we now know that the I moves during development in the spiral from the "kingdom of bliss", on through "instinct-energy" and "gravity-energy" and further towards "feeling-energy" – and from Symbol No. 9 one can see the zones of development for these energies – then it is not difficult to understand that the I, in its evolutionary movement, certainly has to arrive at a place or a zone in the spiral where "feeling-energy" is still not so apparent compared with "gravity-energy". Consequently, the latter energy has full dominance at this point, which again means that this zone must therefore be one of fire and flames. Such a zone is exemplified by the suns, that is all those heavenly bodies which appear to be in a state of fire.
But as the I does, indeed, move on in the course of the spiral journey, it must just as certainly reach a zone where "gravity-energy" is at the point of becoming subdued by "feeling-energy". At this stage certain situations must arise where "feeling-energy" has taken over and other situations where "gravity-energy" has taken over, and on this basis there occur in existence alternating periods of calm and of eruption. "Feeling-energy" can still only partially hold its own against "gravity-energy". But gradually the I's evolutionary journey moves further and further forwards. "Feeling-energy" increases and thereby "gravity-energy" becomes correspondingly more and more held in check. There are fewer and fewer explosions, which really means that they come more and more under the control of the I; they become ever more restrained by the will and eventually are taken into the service of the awake day-consciousness. In macro-cosmos a zone of this kind is represented by those heavenly bodies which are called "dying suns", and in terrestrial man's spiral – or meso-cosmos – by beings who promote the "killing principle". Everything without exception which comes within the range of "killing" is namely identical with "gravity-energy" led by the will.
