437. But just as the novel's aforementioned ending was not mathematical, then neither was its beginning; to a great extent it was an untruth. In reality, from a cosmic point of view, heroes do not exist. A "hero" is a person who can overpower someone else. But a person who can overpower another person is the latter's superior. But for a superior being to conquer an inferior one cannot be a heroic deed. That a majority overpowers a minority is not particularly flattering. Therefore the analysis of a hero is also just a temporal phenomenon.
      But then one might maintain that if a minority overcomes a major- ity, then the members of that minority are heroes. But in this case the principle remains just the same. If a minority overpowers a majority, then the superior strength is not represented by the actual number of the members but on the contrary must be attributed to quite other causes, which have in no way at all hindered the identity of the minority as being the superior group. And its victory is thus, in reality, merely a victory over a less powerful group, regardless of the latter's numbers. And consequently it will not, cosmically seen, be entitled to any sort of hero's glorification.
      Then finally there is the question of whether the villain is as great a scoundrel as is commonly supposed. As every higher intellectual research into life and existence will invariably lead to the analysis that "not one sparrow shall fall to the ground without the will of your Father" and further that "the very hairs of your head are all numbered" and also that "whatsoever a man sows, that will he also reap", then from a cosmic point of view it is impossible for any being to experience anything of which he himself is not the deepest source, in other words, of which he himself has not sown the seeds.
      When, therefore, a person is the object of another's aggression or persecution, it is, in fact, only his own "seed" which he is now "harvesting". But if one is oneself the first cause of one's own suffering, then one is, to the greatest extent, the "villain's" accomplice. Indeed, the "villain" has in reality been the divine "soil", in which one's "seed" has been able to thrive. That it is not so pleasant in situations where the "seed" results in persecution and suffering, as it is where the "seed" is love and happiness, cannot be blamed on the "villain". Thus, according to how far true intellectuality gains a foothold in terrestrial man's faculty of orientation, the maxim "judge not" will become a scientific realization. Hence, those who do judge others can only be beings without a background of high intellectual research into life, and this quite regardless of whatever high position, in "temporal" analysis, they may happen to occupy. Indeed, in areas of life which are real and absolute, they may be characterized as those beings who "rush in where angels fear to tread".
