506. That this "condition of perspective" is not found by ordinary terrestrial people becomes an obvious fact from analysing the thought-climates which make up their usual sphere of consciousness. This analysis gives abundant demonstration of failed hopes, disappointments, sorrows, depression, misunderstandings and superstition. Every thought-climate of this kind is a proof that the thinker "sees" or appears to "see" something quite other than the actual Godhead. Indeed, in the worst cases he sees even the opposite, i.e. "evil", the "Devil", "hell" or "darkness". All such experiences are actually experiences of mistaken viewpoints and are therefore identical with experiences of an incorrect condition of "perspective". But in physical existence we do not call this condition one of "perspective" for in this case we do not see "substances" on the "cosmic horizon", but experience them as more or less solid, liquid or gaseous matter with the most wide-ranging ability for mutual reaction. And it is here that a being's relation to the energies appears more like "chemistry", that is to say a "relationship involving the combination of matter". Because of this, in "Livets Bog" that relationship of combinations belonging to energies or substances is called "chemistry" in the "cosmic" area as well, where – as we have seen in the foregoing – these energies appear as "light".
      The concept "cosmic chemistry" thus covers all contacts of the I with the basic energies, all its collective thought and functions of consciousness, right from its "juggling" with physical energies (which we usually call "chemistry") up to that supreme display, or mastery, of the energies which we call "cosmic consciousness".
      As "cosmic consciousness" expresses the being's supreme "juggling" with the energies, and this "juggling" constitutes the very highest function of thought, or consciousness, and this again is the same as the "sight of God", then that "chemistry" must be the same as the absolute way to God. In its most perfect state, that "chemistry" will therefore contribute a knowledge of, a precept for, or an instruction in, the correct combination of the "matter" or "substances" which should be used to obtain that "mixture" which engenders "cosmic sight" or a union with the Godhead. "Cosmic chemistry", therefore, is by no means a new phenomenon, even if it is perhaps the first time it is referred to under the definition of "chemistry".
