516. In reality, then, the experience of life is simply the experience of energy-reactions. Therefore, the experience of life cannot be identical for all beings, for they do not experience, or interact with, exactly the same energies simultaneously. It follows, then, that neither can they experience the same reactions at the same time. And so the experience of life must be formed completely differently for living beings, according to the diversity of the energies with which each is connected and makes use of in the fulfilment of their inner "longing" or "instinct of self-preservation".
      Thus beings must unavoidably have different views of life or existence. This diversity appears along a scale which forms the area between two culminating opposites or contrasts. Some beings represent a view of life or existence which expresses one contrast, while others represent a view expressing the other contrast, while still more beings each have a view of life which can be found on the steps in between. Here again, as mentioned before in "Livets Bog", we have the "ladder of evolution".
