529. As mentioned, there exists behind all the visible, manifested phenomena of the living being the "primordial desire" – the urge for manifestation, which is the same as the desire for life. This desire or longing lies quite outside the individual's physical day-consciousness in that it exists as a permanent habit of consciousness, an eternal automatic function. The analysis of this desire is quite distinctive, as it can only be directed towards manifestation in its entirety. It is not aimed at any particular area or tendency of matter. It is an eternally existing attraction towards everything and everyone, towards both good and evil, towards harmony and disharmony. It is the unshakeable adhesive element binding together the I, its "super-consciousness" and the "fate-element". It is the primordial power in its "body of eternity". It is the root source and deepest well-spring of the "highest fire". But here it is not in a specified state. It is at a stage where, in the form of "X2", its nature is still nameless. It has no analysis other than that it connects the "super-consciousness" with the "fate-element" from which – inextricable bound up with the I – it goes into the "subconscious". It has its roots in the "divine something" itself. And it even appears partially identical with this nameless reality. In this it has its beginning.
