531. But this unit, consisting of the I and the "primordial desire", is not yet a "living being". Thus far we have still only reached the analysis of such a being's first principle, "X1". It is not enough for it to be a "something" that can radiate the power of attraction. An I with a wish does not make either the I or the "wish" "visible" and in itself does not contain any basis or content whatsoever for the fulfilment of that wish. This part of the analysis of the "living being" still lies quite beyond all observation and sensing, and thereby beyond everything we know as manifestation and experience.
      So, the I alone, with its "primordial desire", does not as yet have any means at all of manifesting consciousness or experiencing the life and existence of other beings. It is, in itself, entirely without thought, without experience and without organic functions. It is surrounded by an eternal stillness or silence, disturbed only by its own "primordial desire" which, being devoid of organs or senses, possesses no means of seeing, hearing, feeling nor any other way at all of making itself comprehensible. Thus, at this point, the I has absolutely no knowledge of its own existence. Indeed, it cannot even become conscious of the "primordial desire" itself. We would have here a state of eternal death, eternal night, a never-ending, all-encompassing stillness and lifelessness if the I was not connected, through the "primordial desire", to the seventh basic energy – the mother-energy. This energy has its root within the I itself and merges into it, in the same way as the I merges out into this energy and, in a sense, becomes one with it.
