The I becomes skilled in reaction. The "super-consciousness" and the "fate-element".
532. But as the I thus becomes one with this energy, for the first time it becomes visibly active. It is able to react with the other six basic energies in existence. The result of this is the maintenance and sustenance of the super-consciousness. It is by means of this reality that the I maintains its eternal "individuality" and constitutes an independent entity in the Universe. The existence of the super-consciousness is due, then, in the first place, to the I's partial identity with the "mother -energy", and on this account its marked ability to react with the other energies in existence. This reaction is so much the more important to the I as it constitutes its entire collective conscious life and makes that same I a "living being". The super-consciousness is thus the general root of this conscious life. And again, as we have seen, the super-consciousness is formed from the I and its "primordial desire", that is, its eternal will to manifest life. The "primordial desire" is a factor which arises by virtue of the I's contact with the mother-energy. As this contact is eternal, the I's "primordial desire" will therefore also be eternal. But as all desire is the same as attraction – and the "primordial desire" is no exception to this – then the result of this eternal attraction of matter (the basic energies) as represented by the I, constitutes a corresponding concentration of matter. This attraction will accumulate matter around its source. But this accumulation of matter does not take place aimlessly or blindly. It proves to serve a purpose in the very highest degree. For those with "cosmic vision" it can be seen that the "primordial desire" is released according to a particular method which gives form and character to this accumulation of matter. This form and character will always be a "fulfilment" of the "primordial desire", which again means an expedient factor in experiencing life or existence. This collection of matter can therefore be seen as a "tool" or an "organ". In this way the I, through its "primordial desire", maintains an organ or tool for the experience of life. It is in this organ that the super-consciousness is rooted. This organ is its "body". We have already mentioned this "body" under the term, the "fate-element". So the living being's super-consciousness consists of the I, the "primordial desire" and the "fate-element". Collectively, these three factors constitute the living being's "supreme command" and the essential supporting energy, as mentioned, is the seventh basic energy. However, the following fact applies here just as in certain earlier instances, that it is only in analyses that we can separate these phenomena from each other. In reality, they appear combined in an amalgamated unit, although with each one preserving its own special characteristic, vital to the co-operative whole.
