What we call "people", "animals", "plants" and "minerals" are the illusory garments of "something which is". What we see of our fellow beings is not the "absolute, everlasting something" within them.
547. It is easy to explain how the above is correct.
In the first place anything at all that we can learn, in technology, for instance, in art or science, is a "sensory experience" or a "created thing", and as such is an illusion. The same applies to what we see or sense as the source of these things. What we call "people", "animals", "plants" and "minerals" are also "created things", the illusory clothing of a "something that is". The Absolute in a "person", an "animal", in a "plant" or "mineral" is neither visible, audible, tangible nor in any way accessible to the senses. Therefore what we see of our fellow beings, our parents and children, our spouses, friends and enemies – in short, all we sense about living beings – is not the absolute, eternal "something" within them. It is only illusory phenomena which, like cloud formations, are only transient, for they are continually subject to transformation and are incessantly changing.
