The I and the fourth state in the cycle: the appearance of matter as "rays", which means fire, cold, electricity, "rays" and "waves". The state is the basis for the individual's creation of consciousness and "spiritual existence".
588. But the "cycle" in matter constitutes states of a still higher kind, for instance those we know under the description of "
fire", "cold", "electricity", "rays" and "waves".
That part of the "cycle" which constitutes these conditions will be defined here in "Livets Bog" as "radiating".
Of this fourth condition of matter only "fire", or what we call "light", is directly visible for physical eyes.
Just as matter may appear as "solid", "liquid" or "gaseous", it can also appear as "radiating" in visible or invisible form.
And just as the physical organism cannot exist without being an interaction of the "solid", "liquid" and "gaseous" conditions of matter, then that interaction cannot possibly take place without being based on the "radiating" condition.
There is "heat" and "cold" behind every created phenomenon.
They are measured in degrees of warmth or coldness.
As we already know from earlier descriptions in "Livets Bog", "heat" and "cold" are, respectively, identical with the two important energies of consciousness, "gravity" and "feeling", and here we can see that these "radiating" conditions of matter form the basis of all conscious life, that is, of all aspects of so-called "spiritual existence" – indeed in the cycle of matter they are the very main factors.
It is because of "cold" (feeling-energy) that things can become "solid", just as on account of "fire" (gravity-energy) they can become "gaseous" or "radiating".
In the living being's "fate-element" there are eternal centres or "talent-kernels" for the I's connection with these two energies, just as there are centres for its connection with the other basic energies – "intelligence", "intuition", "memory" and "instinct".
Through these centres, which collectively contribute to make up the I's "super-consciousness" or "X2", the I influences not only the combination or composition of matter in its subconsciousness but also the amount and consistency of "liquid", "gaseous" and "radiating" matter there.
Through its "feeling centre" it can "freeze" matter to "stone", "crystal" or "ice" – that is to say, to the degree of solidity necessary for its temporary manifestation or creation.
Through its "gravity centre" it can convert "stone", "crystal" or "ice" into "fire", "light", "rays" or "waves" – that is to say into "heat" and thence to the volume and consistency that will likewise suit its temporary need for the creation of life-experience.
That this is actually the case is evidenced – as previously mentioned – by the "normal temperature" of living beings.
This is just the consequence of the I's "consistency control", that is, its ability to keep the various kinds of matter it has to use for its temporary manifestation or appearance, in the mutual degree of density necessary for the functioning of consciousness.
That this ability is a permanent, automatic function and thus works independently in the individual consciousness or organism, in no way alters the fact of its existence.
