The difference between "mineral matter" and "organic matter". Ray-formed matter can be connected to and disconnected from the I's physical organism.
594. The difference between "mineral" and "organic" matter is, in fact, simply that the I is "day-conscious" in the latter, while it is unable to have any day-conscious experience in the former kind of matter. That this analysis is correct is proved in an overwhelming degree by the fact that one's hair, nails and other "mineral matter" in one's organism can be cut without it being noticed or causing pain. On the other hand one is aware in any area where the "mineral matter" is permeated with "radiating" material or in other words where it is "organic". That this "radiating" matter is an independent energy which can be disconnected from the organism is also proved to be a fact by what we call "fainting" or "being anaesthetized" or by the natural disconnection of "sleep". To these must be added "death" itself which is actually the ultimate disconnection of the I's "radiating" matter from physical matter.
