607. In the "cycle", defined here in "Livets Bog" as a "spiral", this great "hunger" is promoted by a huge "satiation" with the juggling of "radiating" matter, that is to say with "spiritual existence". As "satiation" promotes the longing or "hunger" for the opposite of that which "satiates", then the being's "movement" in the "spiral's" first half will be a fundamental "hunger" for proceeding to the juggling with "physical" material, those "solid", "liquid" and "gaseous" substances which create "animal" existence. And that is the "hunger" which achieves satisfaction through the creation of the plant, animal and human kingdoms. But after this "satiation" which has its culmination in the animal kingdom's most materialistic being, that is terrestrial man, then "hunger" – or longing for the opposite – is created. And the opposite of the materialistic or physical-animal stage is precisely a "spiritual" form of existence, i.e. the creation of beings in purely "radiating" material. And it is actually on account of that "hunger" that all moral ideals or precepts are leading towards humane qualities and love, which constitute the initial creation of a being in "radiating" or spiritual material which thus becomes the way to the desired "satiation". This "satiation" with juggling with "radiating" material, or experiencing a spiritual existence, is manifested through the being's experience of the "kingdom of wisdom", the "divine world" and the "kingdom of bliss". After that "satiation", there arises again a "hunger" for the opposite. The being longs once more for the physical-animal existence and is led yet again into forms of existence where that can be attained. This actually means that the being is led into a new "cycle" and so it continues progressively. It cannot be refuted that this is indeed a new "cycle" for a being could not in any way be introduced into the same "cycle" over and over again, for that would mean "what had happened might not have happened", which is an impossibility. So all this really means is that a being's eternal existence consists solely of those "cycles". And so, as the latter cannot be repetitions of the same "cycle", but each represents a new "circuit", we now have the reason why these "cycles" have been defined as "spirals".
