611. A being's absolute, or eternal fate is thus like an eternal rhythmic respiratory movement. This fate thereby constitutes, in a way, one enormous "inhalation" and "exhalation" process. A being "inhales" light (mental perfection and well-being) until he is fully satiated and "exhales" until almost completely empty of that light. It is this emptiness of mental light or intellectuality which we experience as mental imperfection, primitiveness and suffering. Thus, a living being cannot evade this enormous "cosmic breathing" which thereby guarantees an eternally continuous existence in an eternally continuous satisfaction of "hunger" in just the same way as physical breathing guarantees the ability to experience the physical satisfying of hunger for fresh air. Therefore one can understand here, that in his "cosmic breathing" the being must, after every "inhalation" of light, experience a corresponding "exhalation". That his fate, therefore, constitutes an alternating experience of immeasurable "satiation" of light and well-being, and a corresponding experience of the contrast to that, is not only a foregone conclusion but is also a corresponding immeasurable revelation of the culmination of the laws of love in the eternal structure of the Universe itself. Without this alternating experience of darkness and light all manifestation would be just "nothingness". As darkness is a necessity of life just as much as light, it can only be characterized as a culmination of love that the structure of the Universe manifests in this way, so that experiencing this darkness, cosmically seen, can only happen or present itself in the individual's cosmic existence as an absolutely natural and pleasant "breathing out" after a culminating abundant "breathing in" of cosmic life or bliss.
