623. On the strength of having found our position, we see that terrestrial man finds himself at a stage in the cycle where his manifestation is still largely in disharmony with the laws of life. He does not yet know the true reactions of substances sufficiently well and thus creates incorrect combinations of energies which consequently give rise to suffering. He fills his fate with disharmony. Often his daily life is a torture. Wars and crippling injuries, over-exertion, sorrows and suffering, as well as unnatural pleasures, gluttony and exaggerated self-indulgence, laziness and idleness are stamped to a great extent on the entire atmosphere of his consciousness. But on account of our knowledge about "cosmic chemistry" we know now that such an atmosphere of suffering is simply the reaction from a mistaken way of thinking on the part of individuals themselves, due undoubtedly to their ignorance of the particular reactions of the various energies of consciousness. They direct with their will hate and persecution, pain and suffering against certain targets in order to satisfy certain particular desires or wishes within themselves and have no suspicion that the reaction of energies that they are setting in motion there are contributive to the creation of the quality of the sphere of consciousness in which the collective group of their fellow beings have to live. They are unaware that each individual's desire, released in thought or in action might be a storm, a cyclone, an earthquake, a cloud-burst, a flood or an avalanche; it might be the gentle breeze of a summer's day, the still white clouds on the distant horizon or the divine colourful shining of the evening's or morning's reddish glow in the spiritual skies of that community; or it might be warming rays of sunshine, the silvery inspiration of a pale moon or the coal-black night's sinister cloak over deeds of darkness. These are the living beings' thought-climates or "cosmic-chemical" results. Nothing can be thought, created or experienced without belonging to one or other of those climates. They are analogous by nature with the physical or meteorological climates, only with the difference that they are atmospheres in an internal world, they are clouds in an internal sky while the previously mentioned climates are atmospheres directly in an outside world, they are clouds in physical skies.
