632. We have now seen two important thought-climates which cannot possibly provide their sources with "intellectuality" in a direct way. Both the "climate of intelligence" and the "climate of feeling" give their instigators an artificial and unfinished mentality, that is, an illusory spiritual life. It is thus totally out of the question through these two spheres of thought to gain a comprehensive view of life and the structure of the Universe and eternal cosmic manifestation. But of course this does not mean that those climates are without beneficial aspects. On the contrary, they constitute, each in its own way, the most suitable spiritual and mental food for beings belonging to the "killing principle's" zone in the spiral. They can release the satisfaction of all material desires the beings have in that zone, just as they can provide all the experiences necessary to make them long for higher spheres with more beauteous light and far greater love.
      As these are the two great thought-climates which overshadow and control the mental sphere of terrestrial people, it is not surprising that this sphere cannot yet be considered an "intellectual" one, but rather a zone which actually represents an ocean of superstitious beliefs and materialism, a sphere of "heaven" in which beings believe in and cultivate the idea of death instead of life on account of a lack in ability to see "expressions of life" in the cosmos. Theirs is a dark and dismal night-zone where the reactions arising from mistakes must be many and diverse and the disappointments, pain and suffering which follow must be so predominant that this sphere is turned into the home of "weeping and gnashing of teeth".
