696. This nameless "something" has a creative ability. This becomes a living fact through our own existence, which represents one single great creative process. This creative ability, as already touched upon in connection with the present analysis in "Livets Bog", must of necessity be just as eternal as the I, since if it were not, there must have been a time when the I did not have this creative ability and would have been totally unable to create. But if it had been unable to create, how would its creative ability have come about? To the advanced researcher it therefore becomes a fact that the I's creative ability is just as eternal a reality as the I itself. But if it is an eternal reality it cannot have the analysis of a created thing. It cannot have age. It cannot, in itself, be large or small. It cannot be yellow or green. It cannot be evil or good. All such or similar phenomena are subordinate to the creative ability. It is through only the creative ability that a thing can acquire character, can be big or small, can be beautiful or ugly, can have colour and volume and so on. Such analyses can express only impulses produced by the creative ability. But if such an impulse is a product of the creative ability, the creative ability must have existed before the impulse, and consequently the impulse can never exist as a legitimate analysis of the creative ability. We can therefore see that the creative ability, like "X1", can be expressed only as "something that is", and will therefore by nature be just as nameless as this "X". We therefore express the creative ability in "Livets Bog" as "X2".
