Only by training to love can one's senses open up to God's radiance. The terrestrial human being's view of the Godhead and the fellow beings when it is without this training
701. It is not so surprising that divergences arise between the childlike, son-of-God being and this mighty universe's eternal Father and ruler, just as it is not surprising either that the reactions to these divergences can fill everyday life with troubles. Thus to stand face to face, temporally and physically, with eternity's greatest life-artist, this source of love, requires training. Only slowly can the beings accustom themselves to the light atmosphere of his presence. Only by training to love can their senses open up to the penetrating radiance of his countenance. Without this training the terrestrial human being's senses are unopened to reality. Its life is a journey through pitch-black, deserted, slimy caves, a dance of death on the bloody battlefields of the killing principle. Its breath is hardship, sorrow, illness and mutilation. Its speech is the weeping and gnashing of teeth. The "image of God" has gone. It even from time to time sees their fellow beings as "enemies", "criminals", "devils", "monsters" and "witches"; indeed, it lives immersed in entire performances of bloodthirsty beasts and fearsome beings. In truth the senses here are very much closed to the brilliance of God's countenance. It sees only the ashes or the cinders from the blazing highest fire from which its own existence is provided with life, warmth and light. It sees only some empty footprints in the sand of the being in whose living embrace it eternally rests. Indeed, it even goes as far as to deny this being's all-penetrating voice, the speech of life, of which they themselves are an echo. With its materialism it shouts out loud about its worship of death, even though it has never existed, and they proclaim, in the form of hatred of its neighbour, its persecution of the almighty Godhead, whose thoughts and manifestations lie behind its own breath and heartbeat. Here one can better understand the truth in the wise words: "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread", and in the son of God's acknowledgment that "inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me".
