We cannot experience our neighbour without standing face to face with the Godhead. Who this neighbour is
703. Only when all fellow beings and all things without exception become visible as constituting God's manifestation, regardless of how they may look to our sensory apparatus, will everything become visible as nuances in or impulses from this being.Everything will become identical to the necessary areas of light and shade without which any form of correspondence, image formation, creation or manifestation would be impossible. And the opposite of life, which we call "death", would be the absolute sole ruler, where life now exists as the absolutely one and only sovereign and eternally imperishable phenomenon. And it is this eternal phenomenon that is the "image of God". This "image" does not constitute one single thing or one single being, but can consist of only everyone and everything. To devote oneself to this image can take place only in the form of love for everyone and everything. With love for everyone and everything there will be nothing in the "image of God" that one does not like, and no beings that one hates. And through our investigation of the ninth basic answer we can now acknowledge the truth in the great commandment, which is the "fulfilment of all the laws", namely "thou shalt love thy God above all things and thy neighbour as thyself".But we have seen even more than this.We have seen it to be a fact that "God" and our "neighbour" are identical. We will therefore never, in any case whatsoever, be able to see the Godhead except through our "neighbour", and never experience our "neighbour" without standing face to face with the Godhead. Our "neighbour" is our own microbeings, our "neighbour" is the being in whose organism we ourselves experience the light of day, our "neighbour" is the being that persecutes and hates us, just as much as it is the being that loves and admires us.Our "neighbour" is any being whatsoever that might enter the range of our sensory field.By loving this "neighbour" above all things, we are loving the Godhead above all things.
