709. Since we have already, through the previous basic answers, become clear about the fact that the organism constitutes a created phenomenon, it is evident that it can be only a combination of energies, and that this combination has been possible only by virtue of the fact that the energies of which it is made up have at one time been liberated. But if they have at one time been liberated it is a natural consequence that the organism has become a result of a combination of these energies. Through this combination the energies have become bound into a purposeful concentration or block. The organism is therefore merely a block of energies. As these are bound purposefully, this establishes it as a fact that the formation of the block is due to logic, which in turn establishes a previously existing "thinking something" as a fact, since logic cannot exist without revealing thought, which is in turn the same as consciousness. This previously existing "thinking something" is the true originator of the organism and consists, as already pointed out, of an I and its superconsciousness. This "conscious something" existed before the creation of its present bodily organism. Since it is a fact that this creation has taken place, and this is in turn a combination of energies, and this combination is logical or planned and therefore reveals will, it is also a fact that this will-exercising "something" exists as a previously existing, absolutely fixed prerequisite of every form of creation of an organism, just as much as of every other planned creation or production. The fact that the emergence of the organism seems to a large extent to be an automatic function does not invalidate this prerequisite. On the contrary, it has long been known to be a fact that the living being can turn many of the conscious functions of its will into habits and, to the extent that these functions become habits, they relieve the conscious exercising of will and thereby become what, here in "Livets Bog", we call "knowledge C". But none of the habits or planned actions that take place unconsciously in the individual could absolutely ever have come about if they had not beforehand been consciously practised in accordance with the will. And if this practising did not create automatic functioning or a relieving of the consciousness, what would be the point of practising? Being able to "learn" something would therefore be out of the question in the universe. We learn only on the strength of the fact that an experience can be repeated a sufficient number of times for us to know it inside out, which in turn means that it has become an independent ability in the consciousness and thereafter an aptitude or talent. Eventually it becomes perfectly self-evident that the creation of the living being's organism has become an automatic function in the being, since this process of creation cannot be a single isolated experience but can exist only as a process that is repeated again and again, thereby making the creation of the organism a link in a never-ending chain of such creations. It is therefore perfectly natural that at this point the automatic function has become the dominating factor.
