Since an experience or sensory perception can exist only as an acknowledgment of one contrast against the background of the other, all sensory perception or experience would be totally impossible if one of the two contrasts did not exist. All experience can therefore exist only as an expression of our relationship to each of the two contrasts. Of these two contrasts, the one that we are most familiar with forms the yardstick and basis of our acknowledgment of the other. Thus, if we are more familiar with darkness, we will form judgments from the viewpoint of darkness. If we are more familiar with light, it is this contrast that decides our sensory perception or acknowledgment of life or existence. All sensory perception and thereby all acknowledgment thus depend on the experience of darkness or light and can never under any circumstances depend on anything else, since light and darkness comprise everything that exists. But since our experience is directed by hunger and satiation, no being is able to remain permanently in a particular relationship to one of the two contrasts, but has to move on continuously, that is to say it has to undergo transformation. This transformation will be in favour of whichever of the two contrasts the being is, according to its hunger, attracted to. If it feels attracted to light, it will mean only that it is satiated with darkness and therefore feels increasingly repelled by it and consequently undergoes transformation in favour of light. Similarly, if the being has grown out of light and has become satiated with this contrast, it will hunger for darkness and will favour the experiences that are based on this contrast. Some of the beings are therefore travelling towards the light, while others are travelling towards darkness. This in turn means that some beings are undergoing transformation from light to darkness, while others are in the same way undergoing transformation from darkness to light. The aim of both journeys is satiation, while the driving force in the journey is hunger. So simple and straightforward is the beings' journey through life that they quite simply follow their own wishes, desires and longings. In the cosmic perspective there are no other factors affecting their movements. This brings us to the primordial desire itself, which is located in "X2". This desire is the I's eternal, central, primordial source of the experience of life. And this experience is, as we have said, possible only by virtue of the two contrasts that we have mentioned. The living being can therefore never under any circumstances whatsoever find itself in any other situation than that of either feeling satiated with darkness and consequently hungering for light (which is the situation terrestrial human beings will increasingly find themselves in) or feeling satiated with light and consequently hungering for darkness (which is the situation plants and animals in reality represent).
      All manifestations, states or forms of life experience, regardless of which of the three existing cosmoses they might belong to, regardless of which attitude to the truth they might take up, regardless of whether they constitute superstition or reality, will inevitably, in their details, be able to represent only either a hunger for, or a satiation with, light or darkness. These two contrasts form the absolute sovereignty of conscious mental life, in that everything can be created through them and absolutely nothing can come about other than through them.
