715. But nevertheless in everyday existence we witness many "unsatisfied" longings. We see many cases of beings "dying" without having attained the goal of their greatest longing or the satisfaction of their wishes. But according to the law of creation or the release of energy, no longing can cease other than through a satisfaction. This in turn means that all the unsatisfied longings that we either have ourselves or that we observe in others will be satisfied. They represent a release of energy that cannot possibly be brought to a standstill other than in the balance known as satisfaction. The fact that we perhaps "die" before this release of energy has run its full course and found its balance in the satisfaction does not alter the principle, since longings or wishes are not physical phenomena and therefore do not stand or fall with the physical organism. They have their roots and their point of origin in the individual's fate element and superconsciousness. And this is one hundred per cent in agreement with our previous analyses of the eternity of the I. The fact that a being can harbour extremely deep longings or wishes that cannot possibly be satisfied while the being is in its current physical organism is thus a new contributory proof that the being's existence extends beyond the life span of this organism. Here appears a hunger or a longing that cannot possibly be satisfied in the being's present life, not only in the case of a single being, but in the case of millions and millions of individuals; in fact there is not one single normal, civilised human being that can be said to be an exception. This longing constitutes a part of every single individual's mental structure; indeed, it is in fact an inevitable factor in it, just like the daily hunger for food. But that it should differ from this by being a hunger for which there did not exist a satisfaction goes completely against the logic represented by all the laws of Nature and cannot possibly be confirmed. On the contrary, these laws of Nature show with all possible clarity and with overwhelming strength that there is a satisfaction for absolutely every normal longing or for absolutely every normal wish that can possibly arise in every being's mentality, and that this mental hunger consisting of wishes and longings is in reality just as normal and as vitally important a benefit as ordinary hunger, and like this exists exclusively in order that the being can experience the well-being that results from this satisfaction.
