Livets Bog, vol. 3
Every being's physical organism would be meaningless were it not seen as a fragment of the idea or plan that the organisms of all living beings reveal as a fact
723. Every living being's present physical organism thus represents an idea, that is to say, a plan or a purpose that cannot possibly have begun and cannot possibly reach its conclusion during the time that the organism exists. Every being's organism in itself therefore provides an irrefutable proof that it is, as we have stated, only a fraction of the realisation of an idea or plan. It is therefore a fact that this plan did not begin when the present physical organism came into being, since this organism is an expression of a specific link that is the continuation of a previous link in the scale of evolution, and it is also a fact that this plan cannot possibly reach its conclusion when the present organism perishes, since there is evidence of organisms that constitute a link that fits perfectly into the continuation of the plan. In other words, every being's present physical organism is a phenomenon that would be meaningless or incomprehensible, and would in fact be chaos, if it were not seen as a fragment in the on-going chain in the fulfilment of the idea or plan, which in reality means the wish, that the succession of organisms reveals as an irrefutable fact.
