The fact that there is, behind the creation of an organism, a wish of such large dimensions that its cycle and thereby its satisfaction cannot be brought to conclusion in the lifetime of a single organism, is shown to be a fact due to the appearance of the organisms as steps on a scale, and through the being's fear of dying. In the being's wish for an existence that continues beyond the lifetime of the present organism we can see the physical reflection of the idea that lies behind the creation of an organism

724. That there is, behind the creation of an organism, a wish that is of such large dimensions that it cannot be fulfilled or bring its cycle to conclusion and come into balance (be satisfied) during the time that this single organism exists, is revealed as a fact due to the appearance of the organisms as steps on a scale, to say nothing of the fact that no normal being wants to "die" and it looks towards the destruction of its organism with terror, as long as it still does not have "cosmic consciousness" and therefore believes that this destruction signifies the end of its life. The fact that the organisms are continuous steps on a scale shows that an idea, a wish or a plan is gradually evolving towards its fulfilment through the organisms, and the fear of death is proof of the presence of this continuing wish to experience life beyond the time that the present organism exists. In this wish, which exists as the contrast to the fear of death, we find the physical reflection of the plan or idea that lies behind the creation of organisms and which is seated in the individual's superconsciousness. It is perfectly natural that this reflection is not particularly detailed in terrestrial human beings as long as they are still only embryonic beings, whose cosmic mentality is at its very first, tender stages of waking up. But here too we can see in the organisms a gradual development of knowledge that eventually becomes so comprehensive that the being can see or experience its own immortality or can see through and thereby reveal the mystery of its life.
