That this is so can be seen from all the immortal answers or statements that have been brought into the world by its greatest sages and that, in spite of thousands and thousands of years of resistance, stand forth more radiantly brilliant than ever; indeed they are even increasing in their power and glory. In spite of cannon fire, bombardment, materialism and superstition, they reveal themselves to be ever more radiant and have long ago established it as a fact that they constitute the healing that all beings are ultimately inevitably seeking in their darkest hours of need, danger, sorrow and suffering. Absolutely all of us are making our final journey to this haven. The world cannot therefore wipe out this haven, but this haven will, through its identity as the truth and its resultant scientific significance, ultimately be the salvation of the world. What is the beings' evolutionary path other than a fulfilment of the words of the true "prophets" and "world redeemers"? Who would deny that it is precisely the fulfilment of these words – love, culture, enlightenment and wisdom – that they are actually hungering and thirsting for? Who would dare to proclaim that they hate this fulfilment? Is it not this very fulfilment that all the warring powers put forward as the basis of their fighting? Do they not all feel obliged to state dogmatically that this is their ultimate future objective? Do they not all seek mental balm, comfort and healing for their conscience in such dogmatic statements? Who in the twentieth century would dare to proclaim outright that they are fighting solely in order to hate, persecute, destroy and obstruct all culture and truly human ideals? Who would venture to proclaim that they are waging war only as a sporting pastime or with the intention of joining Odin in Valhalla? Is it not the case that even those who kill and murder because they can to a large extent find vent for their sexual pleasure only by seeing their victims' terror and death-agonies will sooner or later cry out to heaven in despair over their unhappy situation? The fulfilment of the eternal precepts and ideals has come so far in its development on Earth that everyone is seeking this fulfilment as the absolutely only safe haven that offers any protection against all the mental storms, natural catastrophes, cyclones and earthquakes. It is the quiet, peaceful waters of this haven that the wounded and suffering sons of all battlefields catch a glimpse of beyond their own blood-stained dance of death. Through the tears, hoarse death-rattles, glazed eyes and mutilated corpses of fellow countrymen, comrades and friends, the cry for the eternal light, to "love one another", becomes all the more penetrating, heartfelt and intense, and thereby correspondingly all the more undermining or destructive of the particular sphere of war or the killing principle. Indeed, war is speeding up its own destruction, the more it eats away at its own strength. The more one eats, the sooner one becomes satisfied. That is the law. Even though the world is enveloped in the consuming flames of war, light is already the order of the day. All eyes are turned towards the great liberation. Everyone is dreaming more than ever of the promised "new heaven" and "new earth". Everyone is hastening towards the fulfilment of the Christmas message of "peace on earth", whether they are conscious of it or not. Only their paths are different. And this brings us to the true cause of war. Deep down, terrestrial human beings' ideals and longings are the same. On this question divergences can in reality no longer arise. This far the eternal truths or the highest answers concerning life that world redemption has to offer have guided the majority of human beings on Earth. Now it is just the paths to the light or the ideals that they are fighting about. But since they have come this far in evolution, the light has already won the battle. If the masses are no longer fighting about the highest ideal or the eternal light, but all want to go in the same direction, such an insignificant question as which path to take will, in this panorama, certainly be solved.
