738. As we have seen, a talent is merely the same as "knowledge" at its peak or highest stage. Every form of automatic functioning of the consciousness or organic automatic functioning is therefore "knowledge C". The living being's organism represents a whole ocean of forms of "knowledge C", each of which has had a previous stage as "knowledge B" and "knowledge A", which furthermore reveals the mentality of the occupier of the organism as a phenomenon that dates back much further than the purely outer, physical organism. Since this organism's inner functions are mainly automatic functions, such as the circulation of the blood, digestion, glandular functions, tissue functions etc., and are as such "knowledge C", which means functions of the will that have become a routine of such magnitude that they have become independent automatic functions, and as these functions of the will can have begun as only conscious knowledge or experience, there thereby opens through the being's present organism such an outstanding panorama of eternity of such an order that causes all mystery to disappear, since this panorama is in itself a complete intellectual revelation that makes the perfect logic or planning in this organism's functions perfectly natural and straightforward. Since all the organic, automatic functions that we can see both inside and outside our own organism are therefore "knowledge C", that is to say, day-conscious cerebral knowledge at its most tried and experienced and thereby most advanced stage, it is not so strange that all these functions together express the culmination of logic, since it is only the experiences that are beneficial to the being that are most repeated, and consequently it is also only these that eventually succeed in becoming automatic functions, "knowledge C" or independent, unconscious organ functions.
The fact that all normal, organic functions are as perfect as they are, regardless of where we can see them – whether they are the ice crystals in snowflakes or the frost patterns on our window panes in the winter, or the sprouting foliage in the spring, the flower buds unfolding into bloom, the corn beginning to grow in the fields, the great, green forests that have emerged from tiny seeds, or whether it is the caterpillar that turns into a beautifully coloured butterfly, the egg that becomes a living, functioning organism, the sperm cell that becomes a human body in its mother's womb and so on – has now become easy to understand, since everything is the manifestation of living knowledge at its most advanced and tested level. This entire ocean of automatic functions in which we live, breathe and perceive is "knowledge C". They all constitute the experiences that were most in favour of life and thereby prevailed, that were repeated over and over again, became "knowledge C" and thereby became a constant, living expression of thinking and will, a culminating revelation of an expression of the highest routine of intellectual consciousness. Indeed, in our own organism's automatic functions there lies before us what we have experienced, thought and willed over an immeasurable period of time in the past, and we can also see that our normal organism today rests on the culmination of the conscious experiences that we found worthy and that best suited and benefited our existence, and as a consequence we consciously or with our will experienced them over and over again until they became automatic functions, which today constitute the central, independent organ functions in our organism.
There exists no more real proof that our I has had an immeasurable existence or mental function before its present one, without which the existence of its present physical life would have been an impossibility.
