If, as in the above situation, none of the fellow beings in our surroundings appear to be the special senses through which the Godhead can experience our particular attitude of mind, to where shall we then turn, and through which form of neighbour will the Godhead sense our intimate appeal to him? This is precisely where the telepathic connection has to be established. If none of the visible, flesh-and-blood fellow beings in our surroundings can be made to understand us, we will appear to be completely alone in the vast interstellar space. And in such a situation many people will commit suicide because they think that all ways are closed to them and thereby all hope is shattered. But this is a very great mistake. We are never ever, whatever the situation, deserted by the Godhead and we are therefore never ever alone in the universe. But what we need to do in such a situation, instead of losing heart or committing suicide, is go into our "secret closet" and "pray to our Father", which means to a large extent make use of the direct, personal attitude towards the Godhead or Providence as indicated in the Lord's Prayer. And this Father or Godhead, who also "seeth in secret", which means that he is also present in our solitude, will then sense our appeal. The fact that it is possible for this to take place is based on telepathy. As there are no physical beings in our surroundings that in the situation in question can be the perfect sensory tools for the Godhead to experience our appeal, the Godhead has to experience this appeal through other of our fellow beings, that is to say, through beings that are on the plane of existence where telepathy is an everyday, natural method of transferring thought. As this plane is a mental one, its inhabitants are also mental beings, that is to say beings that are not incarnated in physical matter, beings that no longer appear in physical flesh and blood. There are millions of such beings that inhabit a sphere that borders on the physical plane, and because of their well-developed telepathic, sensory faculty, they are a great help to all physical beings that find themselves in the situation we have just described. As these beings together represent all evolutionary steps in the spiral, a situation could not arise on the physical plane or for the terrestrial human being that could not be understood and remedied from the mental plane, or the sphere we have just described. The inhabitants of this sphere are therefore the Godhead's special sensory tools in the particular area in which the mutual contact between the physical beings has in certain situations been broken and can no longer be established by physical means.
      When a physical being finds itself in a situation that cannot be understood or accepted by anybody at all in its surroundings, and in this situation, in which many people usually despair, it appeals directly to the Father, which means it forms and directs its thoughts towards the invisible providence in the words "Our Father, who art in heaven" or in some other intimate, personal way, and then from the bottom of its heart expresses its sorrow and distress, such an appeal can then never, even for a moment, due to telepathy and to the invisible host of beings on the mental or spiritual plane, escape the attention of this Providence. As "guardian angels", these beings constitute Providence's special sensory tools for the particular area that forms the basis of the particular prayer in question. And it happens in many, many cases that Providence answers the prayer so immediately and directly that it is even described as a "miracle", which in turn means as a phenomenon that has come about with the help of an input of forces that evades the commonly known physical laws of creation or manifestation.
