779. After this short explanation of what I wish to express by the term "life substances", we will now return to our manifestation of the analysing of consciousness. We got as far as "life substance no. 5", which is the same as what we usually call "matter" or "material". Before we go any further, we will take a closer look at the "substances" touched upon here. As readers know from previous analyses in "Livets Bog" and will have further clarified in subsequent symbols in this book, the living being constitutes a triune principle consisting of "X1", "X2" and "X3". We have already agreed that each of these three principles individually constitutes nothing other than the analysis "something that is", which means that they are all identical to "X1", and are as such completely beyond any form of sensory perception. The fact that we nonetheless can be aware that these principles exist is due to a collaboration between these three principles that is accessible to sensory perception, which is in turn the same as experience or what we call "life".
      We already know a little about these three "X's" relationship to "life" given that we have seen in the previous analyses that "X1" constitutes the I in the living being, "X2" constitutes this I's creative faculty, while "X3" is the result of this creative faculty and is the outer, visible expression of the I. This visible expression is what we call a "living being". The visible part of the living being is therefore not the I itself. This is in itself totally beyond visibility, since it precedes it. Visibility can exist only as something that the I produces. From this produced visibility we can become aware of the creative faculty, which in turn reveals itself as a subordinate characteristic, controlled and guided by something invisible or inaccessible to sensory perception. And it is through the awareness that creation, manifestation and visibility are subordinate characteristics, which can exist only in connection with a superior, controlling centre, that this centre becomes a reality. This reality is therefore the absolute "fixed point" around which the entire remaining part of the living being "moves" or "vibrates" and appears as what we in daily life, either consciously or unconsciously, express by the term "I". This I is the eternally unchangeable part in the living being. It is the eternal stillness or the eternal "fixed point" from which this being's "movement" or "vibration" can be measured.
