But from the lips of the world redeemer there also vibrated other rays of mental light that were quite different and even more radiant than artificial formulas intended to bring liberation from illusory sin-complexes and the suffering associated with them. The formula: "Thy sins are forgiven thee" was not a factor that played a dominant role in the world redeemer's words to those around him; in fact he hardly ever used it when speaking to his very closest disciples or other beings who were particularly interested in seeking wisdom; on the contrary, what he would say to them would be completely different. Admittedly, even here he often had to speak to a certain extent in formulas or parables, but mainly his spiritual manifestation consisted of direct instruction or intellectual clarification regarding the eternal facts or the mystery of life. Take, for example, his conversation with Nicodemus. Is this not in essence high intellectuality? "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, unless a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" was what the world redeemer said. That it was reincarnation or rebirth that was being alluded to here can be seen clearly from Nicodemus' surprise when he said "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" And Jesus answered with even stronger emphasis, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, unless a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the spirit is spirit". And at the same time he tries to allay Nicodemus' great astonishment by saying to him: "Marvel not that I said unto thee, 'Ye must be born again'. The wind bloweth where it will, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit."
