Livets Bog, vol. 3
The formulas and expressions of the Bible will not continue to be adequate
886. As we have seen, there is nothing wrong with the beings, thanks to the course of the Earth and the other phenomena in the divine world order. It must therefore be the formulas that there is something wrong with, since there can arise disharmony between them and the beings. Since, owing to the course of the planets, the beings cannot avoid enrichment of their experience and thereby evolution, and consequently cannot continue to have the same primitive and uncritical attitude towards the highest solution to the very mystery of life either, the formulas that had been given at one time will naturally not be adequate for the higher intellectual step that the being will necessarily eventually find itself on. And we have already been in contact with phenomena that show that behind "heaven" there is concealed a physical continuation of the beings' present terrestrial life. We have seen how world redemption, through Christ, has in a great many ways expressed this continuous existence as "eternal life", as the "resurrection" and as the "kingdom of heaven". We will now look into how this same exalted being has also in many ways indicated what really lies beneath the term or formula, "hell".
