925. But what need is there for this drastic separation, this abrupt cessation of the connection between the macrobeing and the organ beings? Is there no better solution for the physical beings than this so-called "death"? And the answer – backed up by Nature in all its might – has to be no. A better solution does not exist. Once the organ beings are tired of their co-operation with the macrobeing, and the macrobeing under normal circumstances is likewise tired of its co-operation with the organ beings, there is no better or more perfect solution than precisely this cessation of the connection between the two parties. What would be the point of the connection not being terminated? What blessing would result from the two "tired" parties being inseparably united with each other? Would it not be the very opposite of life and work, and thereby the opposite of the enrichment of consciousness or the formation of experience? Would not the two parties sink into a kind of helpless inactivity? Their continued existence would be one of utter powerlessness. But why should such a state exist when life can remedy the problem in a far happier and more perfect way for both parties? Why break off the experience of life with an enforced state of powerlessness, when the possibilities exist for an eternal, continuously unbroken, fully active display of life?
      As we have said, the organ spiral represents a "younger" cycle than the macrobeing's spiral. And as a result, the organ beings go through their spiral cycle somewhat faster than the macrobeing. This in turn means that an organ being, in a way, passes more quickly through the different kingdoms or sections of its spiral than the macrobeing does in its spiral. The organ being and the macrobeing cannot therefore keep up with each other for long. That they can come into contact and keep up with each other at all through one single terrestrial life is due precisely to the fact that the connection begins exactly at a time when the organ beings in their spiral are at a specifically determined or suitable stage after the stage that is analogous to the one the macrobeing finds itself at in its own spiral. Once this connection has been initiated, the organ beings come closer and closer to exactly the stage in their spiral that is equivalent to the step that the macrobeing finds itself on in its spiral, after which they completely pass it by. During the period when the organ beings are passing through the stage in their own spiral that is equivalent to that of the macrobeing, the connection between the macrobeing and the organ beings is at its culmination. Here the co-operation is at its highest or most perfect stage. Before this point has been reached, the co-operation will be increasing in strength and perfection. It is this increase in the manifestation of life that we call "growth". This is what begins with the formation of the embryo and forms the basis of the macrobeing's growth through childhood, youth and on to adulthood. This last stage of consciousness is thus an expression of the culminating point of the separation of the connection between the macrobeing and the organ beings. But the organ beings continue their journey through their spiral at a steadily increasing speed and thereby eventually pass through the stages in their spiral that are equivalent to the macrobeing's stage in its spiral, that is to say the point that marks the separation of the connection between the two beings. But from then on the contact of their connection or co-operation becomes steadily weaker. And it is this increasing weakening that, as already mentioned, we see in the form of "old age". This advancing "old age" is due to the fact that the organ beings in their spiral have moved past the macrobeing and find themselves at stages that are no longer totally equivalent to the macrobeing's stage in its spiral. It is self-evident that this inevitably gives rise to divergences in the connection or co-operation. The very fact that the organ beings in their spiral are passing by the stages that are analogous to the macrobeing's stage in its spiral means that they are approaching the next kingdom in their spiral and are becoming increasingly influenced by its principles of life. As the macrobeing, whose journey through its spiral takes place at a slower speed, cannot keep up at this point, the organ beings and the macrobeing increasingly each represent their own kingdom or section in their spirals. So, the fact that the terrestrial human being grows old means that its organs have passed the stage in their spiral that is equivalent to the terrestrial human being's stage in its spiral. This thus in turn means that the organ beings have come further towards the "real human kingdom" than the terrestrial human being. As a result, they will be increasingly unsuited to carrying out the organ functions for the terrestrial human being, and at the same time they will be increasingly suited to carrying out the organ functions for a "true human being". The obvious consequence of this is that they cannot continue to be the ideal organs for the macrobeing or terrestrial human being to which they are currently linked. But if their connection with this terrestrial human being could not be severed, the terrestrial human being or macrobeing would be forced to have organs that would gradually be totally useless, and equally the organ beings would be forced to be imprisoned in a macrobeing in which the conditions no longer existed for a perfect, rightful manifestation of life.
      It therefore becomes evident as an unshakable reality that this severing of the connection is an absolute requirement for the continued existence of life, for both the organ beings and the macrobeing. This severing is the same as the process we call "death". Due to "death" the macrobeing can replace its organ beings, and these beings are given the opportunity to change macrobeing when the mutually suitable conditions and advantages to do so are present. It is a matter of course that during this replacement process the beings cannot directly manifest themselves physically, since such a form of manifestation is borne by the organ beings. During this period the beings have to appear in a "non-physical" state, which is the same as the so-called "spiritual" existence. In this spiritual existence the day-consciousness is borne by an equivalent spiritual organism made up of spiritual organs and materials. In this way the individual's eternal life forms itself as an alternating appearance in physical and spiritual existence. And it is this individual's alternating appearance in physical and spiritual matter that we call "reincarnation" or "rebirth".
