947. As the I's experience of life takes place in its subconsciousness, it is here within a certain area a "member of the audience" of this stage of life. But it also delivers, through its fate element and its talent kernels, instructions to the "play" (the experience of life) that is taking place on the stage, and it is therefore at one and the same time both a member of the audience and an actor on life's own, first stage. And it is in this capacity that the I can be described as a "living being" or as an "individual". Being a "living being" is thus the I's eternal "role" on its "stage of life". Without this "role" the I could be described only as "X1". But on account of its fate element and its subconsciousness it appears as an "individual" or a "living being". We will therefore call the I's taking on this role and its connection to the stage of life, in other words its identity as an "individual", "life substance no. 33".
