961. As long as the being still belongs to the level of primitive human beings, where instinct (degenerated cosmic consciousness) largely dominates its consciousness, the question: "Who is life?" will not yet exist, since the being through its instinct feels existence to be the expression of a "living" organism belonging to a "god" or "gods", which, through its great power of imagination, it clothes in purely material forms, modelled on itself, but of course fulfilling everything it can imagine in the way of idealism. This innate, instinctive sense of the existence of a "living" providence behind all outer forms of energy and movement or creative processes – as well as the primitive human being's outstandingly superior ability, due to its imagination, to give this providence an outwardly material clothing that satisfies its consciousness, its ability to perceive and its extremely limited intelligence – provisionally constitute for this being a more than adequate answer to the question. This being harbours absolutely no doubt about "who" life is.
