978. The value of all accounts as to fairness therefore depends exclusively on the degree to which they are impartial. To the degree that they are partial, they are untrue and consequently unjust. Regarding the religious dogmas and accounts that have been handed down, it is easy to see that many of them are biased in favour of that phase of the light that terrestrial mankind's evolution is leading towards. The account of the "Fall" is therefore extremely coloured by partiality. And this is the reason why this account, which, as we have already pointed out, was actually an account of what was in its time a great divine blessing, indeed the first phase of world redemption, is perceived and described as the "Fall", just as the main or guiding force behind this blessing is perceived and described as the "temptation" and the originator of this "temptation" is perceived as the "serpent", the "devil" or as "evil" itself. In reality this "temptation" was an incentive, a guidance or an inspiration to the beings to begin to change over to the vitally necessary new form of life or material existence. The "serpent" was therefore, as we have said, the beings' first world redeemer. He fertilised the beings with the new ways of thinking and consequently the new exercising of the will of this new existence, a fertilisation of thought and an exercising of the will that continued to be conveyed and stimulated by world redeemers until the beings became, as is now the case, supersaturated with this new form of life, and this existence became "knowledge C", that is to say, automatic functioning or functions of the subconsciousness*. Here we will call this "temptation" "life substance no. 46", and its originator, the "serpent", the "devil" or the world redeemer of the first phase "life substance no. 47".
