Why "eternal involution" is also a logical term
1060. The same naturally holds true with regard to the opposite of evolution in the spiral cycle, which we know by the concept of "involution". This aspect of the manifestation of the spiral cycle can also be experienced only as a "temporal" phenomenon and is naturally quite illusory, for if we place it and its opposite or contrast side by side, they cancel each other out or balance one another completely. But here we must again remember that this juxtaposition of the two contrasts can be done only "on the balance sheet" or as an "intellectual experiment". In practice it would be completely impossible, since "X2" eternally determines that these contrasts cannot appear in the living being at the same time or simultaneously, but only alternately. A thing cannot go up at the same time as it goes down, just as one cannot open a door by closing it. A being's experience of the spiral in the form of "involution" cannot take place at the same time as its experience of the spiral in the form of "evolution". But since the living being's experience of life can be manifested only in the form of the alternating domains of these two forms of experience in the consciousness, and since this alternation is an eternal principle, the concept of "eternal involution" will be just as logical a term for the experience of this part of the spiral as the concept of "eternal evolution" is a logical term for the experience of the other part.
