The difference between kinship with Providence and the kinship between terrestrial human beings
1130. Here it is easy to see that it cannot be this form of "kinship" with the Divine Father that, as a possession that cannot be touched by others, has given us the "kingdom of bliss" or a "secret recess of the soul" in the form of an eternal "gold copy" of the living universe or cosmos that exists outside of ourselves. The "love" in question here has not been given to any "living being" on the basis of a special "kinship" existing between it and the Father or Providence, a "kinship" or family membership not enjoyed by the other "living beings". All "living beings" possess the above-mentioned gift in a form adapted to each of them. There can thus be no question of any kind of preferential treatment or favouritism. "Kinship" with Providence differs thus from all other forms of "kinship" in that it does not give rise to any kind of preferential treatment or favouritism. Ordinary terrestrial "kinship" is exclusively favouritism. The husband, wife, father, mother, sister, brother and so on are all, each and every one of them, beings who the "other family members" more or less favour in preference to outsiders. The principal laws of marriage command, as will be remembered, that "therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife" and that the wife should acknowledge that "the man is the head of the woman even as Christ is the head of the church". And does it not go on to say that "thou shalt honour thy father and thy mother"? Is it not a universal truth that it is more difficult for a judge to sentence a brother or sister to punishment or death than it is to sentence a stranger? Indeed, in such a situation is a judge not relieved of his duty? Indeed, the so-called "ties of kinship" speak a strong language that gives preferential treatment to or favours "family members".
But this is not the case with the "love" that, in the mind and heart of the being, eternally grants and maintains a living, working "gold copy" of the living universe or cosmos that exists outside. Absolutely no form of favouritism occurs here. Just as the sun shines upon the rich and the poor, the just and the unjust, and the rain pours down upon the evil and the good, loving and unloving beings, so is every single "living being" in existence in its mind and heart equipped with a glorified living, working "gold copy" of the world that exists outside of itself. That this "copy" expresses "love" is established as fact through it being "glorified". When this "copy" appears in its "mature" or completed form, it fills the being with "bliss", which in turn means the most supreme rapture that can be sensed or experienced. A creative force that allows things to change or transform themselves in this way to the being's advantage can be nothing other than a "revelation of love". And since it holds true for every single "living being" in existence and does not exhibit any form of favouritism, we see here a sympathy or a "manifestation of love" that is "all-embracing". It has no favourites and cannot therefore create jealousy, envy or hatred. The divine gift, in the form of the being's "kingdom of bliss" or "inner world", is thus not a camouflaged "prepayment" for something that Providence or the giver of the gift expects to receive in return from the recipient of the gift, such as is really the case within marital "love". Here both the bride and the bridegroom expect reciprocal affection, sympathy or "love" from their opposite number in return for being in love with this opposite number. And unless it fulfils this condition the marriage will not be a real or true one; it will not bring "happiness" to the partners, but "unhappiness".
